The Story in Turkish
1994 yılında ailemle beraber bir yaz ayında Urfa Siverek'e gezmeye gidiyorduk. Ablam, kardeşim, annem ve babam, beş kişiyiz toplam. Gece yolculuk yapıyorduk. Otobüste hemen orta kapının arka sırasındaki iki koltuk bizimdi. Sabaha doğru saat beş buçuk, altı civarıydı. Otobüs yanımızdaki muavini çağırdı. Bir şeyler sordu. Muavin bir iki defa şoförün yanına gitti, geldi. Saat... tahmin ediyorum, altı buçuk civarıydı. Daha henüz hava aydınlanmamıştı.
Büyük bir gümbürtü koptu.
Bu gümbürtü - otobüs kaza yapmıştı. Çok büyük bir kaza geçirdik. Otobüs yokuşu aşağı inerken Hilvan yokuşunda duran kamyonu arkadan çarpmış. Biz tabii dışarıya çıktığımızda otobüs, kamyon paramparça haldeydi. O zaman haberlerde okumuştuk, 15 ölü, 21 yaralı gibi büyük bir kazaydı.
Çok acı bir gün geçirdik. O günü hiç unutmuyorum.
English Translation
In 1994, during a summer month, I was traveling to Siverek [in the province of] Urfa with my family: my sister, brother, mother, father, and I; we were five people total. We were traveling at night. The two seats right behind the middle door of the bus were ours. Around 5:30 or 6:00 in the morning, the bus driver called the assistant over. He asked him something. The assistant went back and forth from the driver a couple of times. I’m guessing it was around 6:30. It was still dark outside.
Then there was a loud explosion.
This noise [was because] the bus had an accident. We had a very serious accident. While going downhill, the bus rear-ended a truck that was stopped on the Hilvan slope. When we got outside, the bus and the truck were completely wrecked. I read in the news that there were around 15 dead, 21 injured – a big accident.
It was a very painful day for us. I’ll never forget that day.
