Hiding in a Tree

Bizim pikap vardı, bu büyük araç var ya? Arkası kasalı. Ondan. Babam o zaman kurbanlıkları burada işte eşinin dostunun kurbanlıkları olduğu zaman hepsini toplu getiriyordu, bu köy evlerine bırakıyordu.
Kurban bayramında da böyle amcamın çocukları falan vardı. Onlarla orada güzel bir zaman geçirdiğimiz için babamla birlikte köyden dönmek istemedim ben buraya. Köyde kalmak istedim.
Bir fırsatımı buldum, köyde işte bir arazide büyük ağaç vardı. Çıktım onun başına. Herhalde bi üç dört saat ağacın başında beklemişimdir. Babam gitsin de emin olayım geri evin oralara geleyim diye. Ağaçta bayağı bekledim orada.
Böyle bir anım oldu köyde.
English Translation
We had a pickup truck, you know… the big vehicle with an open back? One of those. Around that time my father would take the animals for sacrifice from here [in the city], you know, animals for relatives and friends… he would pick them all up together and deliver them to their houses in the village.
During Kurban Bayramı (the Feast of Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha), my cousins and friends were over there. Since we had a great time with them, I didn’t want to return here [to the city] with my father. I wanted to stay in the village.
I found my opportunity. In the village, there was a large tree in a field. I went and climbed up to the top of it. I must have waited in the tree for about three or four hours. I wanted my father to leave so that I could be certain and then go back to the house. I waited there for quite a while in the tree.
That’s a memory I have from the village.
